August 28, 2025.

I’ve been writing this blog for just over six months. It feels like a milestone. When I began in February 2025, I felt called to write the blog for a brief moment in time. Only until the world situation settled down.

It never occurred to me that I’d still be writing six months later.

My intention has been to provide some words and spiritual practices that might deepen our relationship with God, the Divine. That way, you and I, with the Spirit's help might grow in compassion, love and peace and counteract the negative forces that are swirling around our Earth right now.

I had hoped that our deeper connection with the Holy would help to build our inner strength, compassion, creativity and peace. And that these would spill over to our outer lives. And out into the world.

That this "Holy" connection would allow us to live with less anxiety and resentment in the struggles of this time.

That our relationship with God would help us to avoid cynicism and hopelessness in the face of a growing lack of compassion in public life.

That Spirit would call us to Divinely-inspired action, which in turn would counteract the injustices and other horrors being enacted by those who don’t seem to see the humanity and value of every human being.

Thank you dear blog readers for being with me over these last six months. I will continue to write and video until things settle, as I’m able. As long as the blog continues to be helpful to me and to you.

Some of you have expressed your gratitude, while others are quiet. I do appreciate hearing from you and hope that you will always feel comfortable commenting, asking questions, and critiquing my work.

I cannot meet your needs if I don’t know what you want and need.

Thank you again for being on this crazy journey with me.

In today’s video we will be prayerfully reflecting on the past 6 months of our lives using lectio divina on life experience, [1].

Possible journaling questions:

• What has the reflection on the past six months revealed to you?

• How has the Divine been present to you in this prayer time?

• How has Holy Mystery been present to you in the past six months?

  1. This spiritual practice is loosely based on the "lectio divina on life experience" ideas from Teresa Blythe, 50 Ways to Pray: Practice from Many Traditions and Times, Abingdon Press, Nashville, TN, 2006, (49) and Christine Valters Paintner and Betsey Beckman, Awakening the Creative Spirit: Bringing the Arts to Spiritual Direction, Morehouse Publishing, New York, 2010, (57-58).

This blog is dedicated to the memory of Maureen Fowler, a beloved spiritual mentor.
